Becoming an animal

If I could become an animal, I would want to become a sally lightfoot crab, because they have tropical colors such as sky blue, yellow and red.

I would live in a rockpool full of algae and seaweed, phytoplankton, mussels, clams, barnacles and crustaceans, small fish and marine invertebrates.

The advantages of the sally lightfoot crabs are they clean away algae, sea lion placenta, bird droppings and dead fish. And what I mean by clean away, I mean eat away those stuff. And that would make it very easy for me to find food.

The second advantage is that sally lightfoot crabs can store water inside their body and then spray it at attackers to startle them. So, I could spray water at people when threatened.

The third advantage is when sally lightfoot crabs are not adult yet, their colors are dark brown or black, allowing them to hide away from predators at a young age and they are able to camouflage easily. This would be very helpful for me because I am still a child and I am not good at hide and seek.

The disadvantages is that when I grow older, my shell will mold, so I have to shed and I will not be able to control whether I want to shed or not. So if I am hiding, I have to shed. Then predators can find me easily.

I would feel happy and confused being a sally lightfoot crab, since my colors will change and I am forced to shed.

I might want to change to a different animal because I have many predators in the area where I live and I might get washed away by big and strong waves.

That would be an amazing experience if you were allowed to be a Sally lightfoot crab for a day!
