Kakapo
Kakapo, known as the “Fattest Bird” and “Mighty Moss Chicken”, is a bird from New Zealand. It’s nocturnal and it is my favorite bird of the year! Today, I’m going to share some facts about Kakapos!
Kakapos are native to New Zealand. They’re green and fluffy with wings that they CAN’T fly. They weigh about 2-4kg, which is why they’re named the “fattest parrot”. They have zygodactyl feet, which means two front toes, this provides strong grip strength for climbing.
They only eat plants which makes them vegetarians. Their diet is diverse and changes with the seasons. Their favorite and most crucial food is from the Rimu tree. They also eat beech seeds, podocarp fruits and various berries. They use their highly developed smell, sensitive whiskers on their beaks, memory and routine to find food.
They are endangered and we need to save them, we most definitely cannot hunt them, but other than that we just need to look out for their predators like the toots and weasels!
