“Tell me and I forget; show me and I remember; involve me and I understand.”
During my years in the classroom, these words have come to mean so much more to me than just a random cliché used to explain the importance of student involvement. We learn by doing. Children learn to read by reading. Students become great writers by writing. In essence, we internalize new experiences by performing those exact tasks. Hopefully, my students will truly understand the meaning of my often-repeated words, “Don’t tell me, show me.” My wish is that they become tactile learners.
I have been teaching at Creative Primary School since 1997. Having been teaching English, Mathematics and music, I have vast experience in curriculum development of different subjects. I also served as Panel Head of English Department (2003-2010) and Mathematics Department (2001-2002). The panel head duties not only train me up as a diversified decision maker, it also allows to collaborate with colleagues of different backgrounds.
I am very pleased to work for the Programme of Inquiry (POI) this year. I believe that a coherent, articulated POI in CPS can benefit students to think for themselves, become smart decision markers, develop positive values, and learn through life.
CPS is a place full of love and care. I love seeing children’s excitement when they are engaged in their learning. When teaching, every day’s a new day and I always learn something new!
