Meeting with an Animal
While I was walking with my tiring feet after school last Friday, I took a break in a seaside coffee shop. Then, as I was sipping my coffee, eating my delicious donut, I heard someone call me. The voice said, “Hi!” I quickly turned around as I thought it was a friend or a far relative, but then what I saw was absolutely terrifying and shocking to me! I saw a polar bear, which was about, 2 or 3 meters tall, looming over me. I would have had a heart attack if it was a lion. I was so scared that I couldn’t say anything. I only stuttered, “Please don’t…….eat me.” Only then did the polar bear ask, “Where am I?” I almost fainted. How could a polar bear talk? And how did it even come to Hong Kong? Even with my intelligence, which was shockingly low, I figured that a polar bear couldn’t survive in such a warm place! My head was bubbled with so much thoughts that I didn’t even notice the polar bear tapping me on the back. “Hello?” he said in a sing-song-y voice. The voice made me go back to reality, because he asked, I mustered up my courage and said, “You are currently in Hong Kong.” I thought to myself, “I can’t believe it! I am talking to a real polar bear!” The polar bear exclaimed, “Oh! I’ve come such a long way!”
Soon, after I talked to the polar bear for a bit of time, I warmed up to him. So, I asked, “What brings you here?” The big, furry creature replied, “Here is my story. You see, Antarctica, which is where I came from, is facing a mega huge problem, global warming. My family and I were all suffering as ice kept melting and disappearing.” I nodded as he spoke. He continued talking, “We struggled to find food like walrus and fish. It was a bit hard and challenging for my family, but we caught just enough food for us to survive. We were all living quite happily when tragedy struck. While we were eating, the ice broke into a few pieces. Some of us were unlucky because we lost our balance and fell into the water. And I was one of the few unlucky ones. As my dad was a very heroic polar bear, he sacrificed himself and saved me by jumping into the water and hauling me on the ice he was standing on. Ever since then, I have never seen him again.
After saying all that, the mighty polar bear sobbed and cried, then heaved a sigh. “Waah! I never thought polar bears could cry!” I felt really sorry for him. So, I comforted him by saying, “I will try to save your home by telling people burning fossil fuel affects your home and global warming. And it also affects other animals…”. As I was still talking, everything, everything vanished right in front of my eyes! I blinked and found myself back in my bedroom. I was dreaming! No wonder…….
