My Kite Flying Experience
A few years ago, in Yianjiao, Hebei, I first flew a kite with my dad on our lawn.
At first, I happily held the kite and unfolded it on the ground. My dad helped me lift it up, and I ran toward the tailwind direction. I was very excited that I could fly the kite myself, but it dragged on the ground the whole time and wouldn’t move up. No matter how fast I ran, the kite still didn’t fly, and I felt very tired.
Initially, I thought I wasn’t running fast enough, so the kite didn’t move. Then, my dad suggested that he fly the kite while I watched him. He ran slowly, and suddenly the kite soared high into the sky! It lasted for a few minutes, and sometimes it made fancy movements in the air. I was very shocked by what I saw.
But then, when the show reached a climax, the kite appeared to have been beaten and fell to the ground. We hurried over to it and discovered that one of the strings was broken. I guessed that it had broken when I was dragging it, but it completely broke when my dad flew it. We tried to fix it by sticking it together, but that method ultimately failed. In the end, we used a new bamboo stick that we cut from our garden to repair it. Although it didn’t look beautiful, we could still fly it. We were very happy that it could be used again!
Finally, when I was about to fly it, my dad told me to run in the opposite direction of tailwind. I suddenly realised that I ran the wrong way. I tried again, and I eventually flew it into the sky. I was very excited!
This experience improved my knowledge and made me very happy. It also taught me that success always required persistence in trying.
