An Unlucky Summer Holiday

One day in the summer holidays, I was at my cousin, Emma’s home where he
decided we should go hiking. I agreed. So we went in a taxi to the hiking place.
When we got there, it was almost completely deserted. I guess people don’t like
hiking in summer, because it’s too hot. We had prepared a camera, a water bottle and sunscreen. We were taking photos of interesting plants when we noticed a person running towards us.

Emma and I impulsively fled, sharing a mutual understanding that he is not good news. “Is he gone?” I panted after running for a while. We squinted at the undergrowth behind us. The person appeared again. “Nope! Run!” Emma called. I turned around to run, but I could barely take two steps before a rock made me trip. “Ow!” I cried. Emma knelt next to me. “What’s going on?” she asked. “I tripped,” I said, trying to heave myself back up. “It’s nothing.” I tried to stand, discovered my legs had chosen an entirely different goal, and then I sat down again. “I think I twisted my ankle!” I said, panicking. The man was coming closer. “Let’s just give the guy whatever he wants. We have no choice.” Emma said. It turned out that the man just wanted to return my water bottle that fell from my bag. “So we ran that much for nothing?!” Emma yelled. “At least we weren’t robbed.” I pointed out. “True.” Emma laughed. I felt rueful that I twisted my ankle for nothing, but we were lucky nothing else bad happened. Now I know we shouldn’t judge a person too fast.
